Industriegeschichte erleben

The industrialisation of Europe left its marks in the development of cities like Chemnitz. After 1990 historic production sites lost their meanings as a consequence of structural change but the implications (buildings and memories of the older population) are still present and form identities. The aim of the project is that pupils get in touch with the different periods of industrialisation– from the historic matters, to the significance in GDR times as well as the effects of de-industrialisation – and the impacts on urban development, formulating identities, the image of the city and perceptions of the inhabitants. The result will be an interactive app that includes thematically distinctive routes and combine different layers making the meanings visible and comprehensible.
